DKL Demonstrates LifeGuard at Colorado Snow and Avalanche Workshop
Colorado Avalanche Information Center Hosts the 5th Annual Workshop

Vienna, VA, October 30, 2006 - DKL International, Inc., a leading provider of passive human detection technology, demonstrated its DKL LifeGuard™ to attendees of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center’s (CAIC) 5th annual Colorado Snow and Avalanche Workshop (CSAW). The demonstration took place on October 25 at Copper Mountain. CSAW is a one-day workshop of presentations for professional development of avalanche professionals and practitioners in Colorado.

Jim Bryant, VP Training, and Steve Dabbs, CFO, gave a presentation of the DKL LifeGuard to 175 participants at the facility followed by a demonstration on the grounds of Copper Mountain to approximately 60 participants. Jim Bryant commented, “This demonstration generated among the strongest and most favorable responses we’ve received from a presentation. A person was hidden and ‘found’ approximately 200 yards away in a tree line behind a snow making barrier in less than a minute. Following the demonstration, a number of participants were able to participate in preliminary training of the LifeGuard, and remarked at the ease of using the LifeGuard.”

The presentation highlighted the benefits of including a LifeGuard as a standard procedure in searches where there is a risk to human life from avalanches. These benefits include:

  • Finding survivors sooner will save lives

  • Significant savings in man hours

  • Increased safety for searchers by providing standoff detection

  • Improve the effectiveness of conventional search and rescue tools

  • Effectiveness of technology not affected by environmental factors

Scott Toepfer, Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), commented, “The LifeGuard was very impressive. I can see where this could make a critical difference in rescue operations.”

The participants included ski patrollers, avalanche forecasters, CDOT and county road maintenance personnel, ski guides, search and rescue teams, avalanche instructors, undergraduate and graduate students in snow science programs, applied researchers, and others who take winter sports seriously.

The CAIC is in its 23rd year of operation, and is headquartered at the National Weather Service office in Boulder. The CAIC is the oldest avalanche forecast program in the United States. Their roots were with the US Forest Service when the Colorado Avalanche Warning Center was started in 1973. The purpose of the CAIC is to minimize the economic and human impact of snow avalanches on recreation, tourism, commerce, industry and the citizens of Colorado. Since 1950 avalanches have killed more people in Colorado than any other natural hazard, and in the US, Colorado accounts for one-third of all avalanche deaths.

Judging was done by a distinguished panel of law enforcement officers, and the winners were announced at the IACP (International Association of the Chiefs of Police) Conference in Boston on October 15th.

Justice Department Agency Joins with DKL to Produce New Security Products

Vienna, VA, September 27, 2006 -- Federal Prison Industries (FPI, trade name UNICOR), an agency of the U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Prisons, has concluded an agreement with DKL International, Inc., a leading provider of passive human detection technology, to produce a revolutionary new security system for sale to government agencies.

“We are pleased to have the support of Federal Prison Industries in bringing the reliable, passive, human-specific, SilentGuard™ perimeter security system to agencies of the federal government, while adding our support to this very worthwhile work experience program,” said Howard Sidman, chairman of DKL International.

DKL Demonstrates LifeGuard at Inaugural International Mining Health and Safety Symposium

Vienna, VA – June 19, 2006 – DKL International, Inc., a leading provider of passive human detection technology, announced the demonstration of LifeGuard® to mine rescue and safety organizations from all over the globe at the inaugural International Mining Health and Safety Symposium. This conference, hosted by Wheeling Jesuit University, was held April 20-22. The Symposium focused on issues such as how mine equipment is approved, and how to accelerate adoption of state-of-the-art technologies from traditional sources, as well as adapting technologies developed for other applications by agencies such as the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), the federal agency charged with conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related illnesses, co-sponsored the symposium with the state.

The forum provided an opportunity for technology developers and equipment manufacturers to display and demonstrate their products. Representatives of the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety & Training (WVMHST), West Virginia Coal Association (WVCA), National Mining Association (NMA), United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and other organizations participated in reviewing technologies and discussing deployment strategies.

Mine health and safety and mine rescue experts from Canada, Australia and other nations also participated.

DKL LifeGuard Enhances Port Security

Vienna, VA - October 13, 2005 --The Shekou Container Terminal (SCT) in southeastern China has chosen the DKL LifeGuardŌ to detect stowaways at one of China's fastest-growing container terminals, Wang Yihong, the assistant general manager of the terminal has announced.
The Shekou Container Terminal (www.sctcn.com/english/index.htm), which last year had a throughput of 2,241,173 containers for global shipment, has seen a large increase in traffic in recent years. Officials there are dedicated to the best possible implementation of the International Shipping and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. “We used the carbon dioxide-based devices in the past, which always made wrong judgment. The new devices are much more accurate,” Wang said.

An independent security firm tested the hand-held LifeGuard, which detects the unique electrical field created by a beating human heart, at the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium for the local port authorities and Belgian Federal Police. That test found the LifeGuard to be 100 percent effective in finding humans hiding in trucks and shipping containers. As a result of these findings, the Belgian Federal Police have since utilized the LifeGuard to perform checks at land borders, in addition to harbors.

DKL International Expands into Middle East
Reports Increased Japanese Orders for LifeGuard™ System

Vienna, VA. - July 18, 2005 – DKL International, Inc., the world's leading supplier of passive human detection technology, announces Al Kashef Scientific & Laboratory Equipment L.L.C. as the first distributor of DKL’s LifeGuard in the Middle East. A company agent successfully completed the LifeGuard training course, and the first units have been delivered to their headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Hakim Chebaa, the Managing Director of Al Kashef, has already received several inquiries from his sales territory, which includes Arabian Gulf countries, Morocco, and Algeria. Al Kashef is now certified to instruct operators in the use of the LifeGuard system. The company will maintain an inventory to provide faster delivery and customer service.

Additional Orders from Japan
An increasing number of emergency organizations in Japan are also placing orders for the DKL LifeGuard. These orders are being driven by the need to find survivors in collapsed housing, avalanches, and other life-threatening situations.

DKL LifeGuard Dramatically Cuts Search Time in Avalanche Drill

VIENNA, VA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 11/10/2004 -- DKL International, Inc., a leading provider of passive human detection technology, announced that use of DKL's LifeGuard reduced search time by half during an avalanche drill in Japan.

Following an avalanche in Japan that claimed five lives in 1997, local rescuers began searching for technology to improve their ability to locate victims. In a drill run by 45 members of the Hyogo Police Headquarters and the Yatsushika Police, search time was cut in half when using DKL's equipment. The handheld DKL LifeGuard, purchased by the Hyogo Police Headquarters last year, detects the electric field of a beating human heart through numerous barriers, including snow.

In a drill at the Hachi Heights ski area, at the base of Mt. Korinoyama, a pair of LifeGuard operators first located "survivors" who had been buried 1.5 meters deep in the snow. More than 20 rescuers walked side-by-side using aluminum poles as probes to confirm locations of these "survivors." The normal search time of one hour was cut in half by using LifeGuard. Following the drill, the Hyogo Police said, "LifeGuard is portable and fast and will help us to save lives." Mr. Kurogooshi, of the Hyounosen Hachibuse Tourist Association added, "Any technology that helps saves lives is good for tourism because it lets visitors know that their safety is our first priority."
